** These are very Fundamental questions. Opinions may differ but what Dr DD Sharma has gathered by 60-62 yrs studies and experiences are produced below which is quite Dynamic in nature:
I congratulate Mr Abraham Lincoln, the great man and Ex. President of USA, who has produced a very simplistic definition of Democracy:
Democracy is the Government by the people, for the people and of the people.
On the basis of the above criteria as explained below, and a few fundamentals of Democracy, I would like to find how far a country is democratic.
Fundamentals of Democracy:
1. Freedom: Freedom of Speech, Press, Movement, Working and Living anywhere in the country.
2. Equal Opportunity for all: Every body of a democratic country should have equal opportunities and equal rights. People should not be differentiated for opportunities on the basis of Sex, Cast, Creed, Religion, Region, languages, different Views including views on politics, so long as it does not harm others. No special power or status even to Monarch and the family members.
3. Really Ruling Person must be Elected by the Citizen of the country: The really Ruling person(s) at the Top should be elected, directly or indirectly, by the citizens of the country or its states as the case may be, through secret voting (this means by the people).
4. Power of Recall: The motto of the Government should be the good of the people, not the good of any party, group of parties, or a person or group of persons (this means for the people). Once the Government or an elected representative does not work for the People, there should be a mechanism to Recall him / her/ them from the post(s).
5. The Top Rulers to be Citizen of the Country: The rulers should be from one among the Citizens of the country or the state; not an outsider.(this means of the people).
6. Legislatives should have elected representatives: Based on secret voting of adult franchise.
7. Independent Judiciary: Judges should not be appointed by Executive(s). There should be independent mechanism to appoint Judges.
8. No Imperialism: A democratic country should not be Imperialistic, expansionist

** These are very Fundamental questions. Opinions may differ but what Dr DD Sharma has gathered by 60-62 yrs studies and experiences are produced below which is quite Dynamic in nature:
I congratulate Mr Abraham Lincoln, the great man and Ex. President of USA, who has produced a very simplistic definition of Democracy:
Democracy is the Government by the people, for the people and of the people.
On the basis of the above criteria as explained below, and a few fundamentals of Democracy, I would like to find how far a country is democratic.
Fundamentals of Democracy:
1. Freedom: Freedom of Speech, Press, Movement, Working and Living anywhere in the country.
2. Equal Opportunity for all: Every body of a democratic country should have equal opportunities and equal rights. People should not be differentiated for opportunities on the basis of Sex, Cast, Creed, Religion, Region, languages, different Views including views on politics, so long as it does not harm others. No special power or status even to Monarch and the family members.
3. Really Ruling Person must be Elected by the Citizen of the country: The really Ruling person(s) at the Top should be elected, directly or indirectly, by the citizens of the country or its states as the case may be, through secret voting (this means by the people).
4. Power of Recall: The motto of the Government should be the good of the people, not the good of any party, group of parties, or a person or group of persons (this means for the people). Once the Government or an elected representative does not work for the People, there should be a mechanism to Recall him / her/ them from the post(s).
5. The Top Rulers to be Citizen of the Country: The rulers should be from one among the Citizens of the country or the state; not an outsider.(this means of the people).
6. Legislatives should have elected representatives: Based on secret voting of adult franchise.
7. Independent Judiciary: Judges should not be appointed by Executive(s). There should be independent mechanism to appoint Judges.
8. No Imperialism: A democratic country should not be Imperialistic, expansionist
On the basis of the above eight Criteria, let us find which country is how, in order of decreasing population.
